The Robertson Wine Valley is in the business of bowling people over with its wine tourism innovation, hospitality, and of course, great wines.
Probably best known for its four annual wine festivals (including the ever popular Wacky Wine Weekend and a fifth one in Gauteng held for the first time in 2010), the Robertson Wine Valley has so much more to offer. Even the name itself offers more, as it can describe the organisation, doing generic marketing for the wines of origin Robertson, the geographic area or the products this Valley offers, together with the 'lifestyle' to be experienced when you visit this area.
The Robertson Wine Valley was established in 1983 when a handful of winemakers decided that it was time to market their product collectively.
Now, 28 years later, the organisation has grown to represent 57 members, of which no less than 50 are wineries. Working together with the tourism and business sectors, this Valley has experienced growth like no other, which is proved by the new businesses that has opened in the past few years.
Only 90 minutes drive from Cape Town lies a valley surrounded by mountains and blessed with the Breede River that is the lifeblood of the agriculture. The rich soils and interesting climate ensures the produce of quality wines and the natural beauty makes it a perfect place to visit when you've had enough of the hustle and bustle of the city.
Families are of course more than welcome, as there is ample space for the kids to run around and activities in which they can partake. Whether that is swimming, hiking, horse riding or visiting the bird farm. No wonder the slogan for this Valley is "More than an experience, it's a lifestyle..."
