STANFORD AND THE OVERBERG
Bezuidenhout House is a good base for exploring the Overberg. Stanford village has much to offer visitors: an eclectic mix of shops, galleries, restaurants and coffee shops, historical architecture, river cruises, horseriding, Birkenhead micro-brewery, cheese farm & picnic spot, walks along the river, amazing birdlife & hiking in the fynbos.
We are also ideally placed to explore the magnificence of the Overberg with its everchanging landscapes and experience the myriad of possible adventures and nature reserves nearby. The nearby coastal town of Gansbaai offers boat based whale watching and great white shark cage-diving & viewing in season and Cape Fur seals on islands in Walker Bay. Klein river offers cruises for birders For those interested in light houses and ship wrecks, there are five lighthouses around our Overberg coast and it is, sadly, the graveyard to numerous ships. The Shipwrecks museum in Bredasdorp is a must for naval historians. L’Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa is a mere hour away. This is where the two oceans meet. For wine lovers there are about 20 wineries in this region. The new Elim ward has four wineries. The Overberg abounds with a multitude of things to do and see. Linger longer to explore the area and it’s history.
