Cape Point Vineyards is the only wine producer in the Cape Point district, which lies on the Cape Peninsula between the warm currents of the Indian Ocean and the cool currents of the Atlantic Ocean. Thus we have our very own Wine of Origin, Cape Point.
The Site History
The vineyards are being developed on two different sites, which have been chosen specifically for their location and suitability to different grape varieties. Once planting is complete, there will be approximately 50ha under vine.
Noordhoek Site
The oldest of our vineyard sites, these South facing vineyards were planted in 1997 and currently consists of approximately 30 Ha of vines planted under Sauvignon blanc, Pinot Noir, and some Semillon and Chardonnay. The site is 2 km from the Atlantic Ocean and varies from 40m to 280m above mean sea level. The once indigenous stream is being restored to its former state with indigenous trees.
Redhill site
Our newest vineyards site, we planted vines on the north-facing slope in August 2000 with Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. This vineyard is the most southerly on the Cape Peninsula.
The Cellar
The cellar has been erected at the Fish Hoek site. Our plans are to design and construct a new tasting centre within the next few years. At present, we are not open to the public for sales or tasting.
The Wine
Our wines are available under our flagship label – Cape Point Vineyards – bottled as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Noble Late Harvest. Regarded as one of the worlds’ premium varieties, Sauvignon Blanc lends itself to a number of different styles. We have entranced this versatility at Cape Point Vineyards and are producing different wines to offer the consumer a more complete Sauvignon Blanc experience.
