The aim of the competition is to recognise and reward outstanding destinations, both large and small in different categories, and discover & encourage those with potential throughout South Africa.
We’re looking for examples of:
- places that evoke senses of pride or pleasure,
- creative partnerships & community involvement,
- skills development & job creation through tourism,
- sustainability & catalysts for change,
- innovative marketing,
- destinations that have started a process to achieve the above, which we can support.
The process is designed so that all participants are winners. Competitions make one think and try harder. This competition is different in that entrants can submit preliminary content and then edit and expand the entry.
All towns & regions compete as destinations. They all need to be attractive & desirable places to live, work, play, visit & invest in.
It’s about wider, more meaningful public participation. It's not just about public or judges' votes; entrants need to explain what their destination has that makes it noteworthy. And there is public involvement where visitors and citizens can Rate & Review Destinations

How to vote?
Well that's not really what it's all about. It's about Rate & Review, where the reviews count more than the votes. And reviews or votes from visitors count more than those by locals (who of course want to see their town win).
To write a review and rate a destination, go to the destination's page. Click on the photo or name above to be taken to the page. Or for the full list of entrants, click here. After you have registered and are logged in, you will see a button saying "Add new review" near the top of the Reviews section.
