Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape has everything all the other provinces have together -- a surfing mecca in the warm Indian Ocean at Jeffrey's Bay, dramatic coastlines and empty beaches of the Wild Coast, bushveld and the Big Five around Addo, signature Karoo towns like Graaff Reinet and Cradock, the magic of Hogsback and the Amatola Range leading to the southern reaches of the Drakensberg on the Lesotho border.
But two things set the Eastern Cape apart from Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Northwest Province -- firstly the crystal-clear light with little haze, the sort of light that has made Cape Town one of the film capitals of the world. Tourists will get great photographs to take home!
Secondly, an outstanding built heritage -- reflecting the province's history of 19th century frontier towns.
