Registration

  • How to Register

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

Please ensure that your browser is set up to accept cookies and also has javascript execution enabled.

Click on Register on the right hand side to open the Registration page.

You choose your own username and password, provide the email address that is linked to your username and where the confirmation email is sent for you to activate.  (Check in your junk folder if this confirmation email doesn't arrive almost immediately.)

If your firstname and surname is not appropriate because you are registering as a business, you can still use your name if you will be managing content or you can use something like "Guesthousename" and "Marketing".

If you do not receive the confirmation email, you can have it resent by trying to log in with your username and password.  The only reason that you may not be receiving it is that you entered a different email address or one with an error.  (Typing .coza instead of .co.za or typing a comma when there should be a full stop are the most common, so please check your email address carefully.)

  • Can't login or lost username or password?

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

If you find that you can't login and you have already registered, it could be that you requested a new password on your previous visit to CapeInfo.  Click on the Forgot login link that appears after you have clicked the Login/Registration link.

If it's your password that you've mislaid, a new password is generated and emailed to you.  You can change your password again if you click on the User Profile link.

  • Your User Profile

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

If you need to change any of your registration details - firstname, surname, email address or password - this is where you change it.  You cannot change your username.

The User Profile link appears in the Log in panel.  You need to be logged in before you can access your User Profile.

At the bottom of your User Profile page, you will see tabs for CapeInfo Directory and Forum - if you have any content there.  This is a quick way to access your content in those sections.

  • How to edit your business in the Directory

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

This is if your business already appears in CapeInfo's Directory.

You need to have registered and be logged in to edit your content.  Your Directory page needs to have already been added to your username.  If you added your business yourself, this will all have been done and you can proceed.

If you didn't - it may have been added for you - please make sure you are registered and have logged in, and  "claim" your page by clicking the link at the bottom.  You will be informed when your claim has been processed.

When you are logged in, you will see an "Edit" link on your page.  (Other visitors to CapeInfo cannot see this.)  Click on that to edit your page.

The quickest way to get to a page/s linked to your User Profile is to click on "User Profile" in the login panel, click on the CapeInfo Directory tab at the bottom of the page, and then click Edit on the page/s you have access to.

  • Problems with the layout of your copy

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

You may encounter problems with the appearance or layout of your content if you copy and paste from applications like Microsoft Word or other websites.  Copying from these applications also copies all sorts of other hidden code which can also make your page unreadable.

If you have problems, you need to open your computer's basic text editor - Notepad or something similar.  Paste the content that you are copying into that editor - the extra code is ignored.  And then copy the content in your text editor to paste into the text boxes in the Directory form.

  • Logo & icon photograph

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

You can add an optional logo image to the top of your detailed page.

The optional icon image is probably one of the most important images and you should be sure to get this online as soon as possible.  It appears in the category and search listings of entries, and helps to attract the reader's attention to your entry.  It should encourage them to click through to read more.

To change either the logo or icon image that you have already loaded, you need to delete the current image and save the page, and only then load a new image.

  • Setting your map location

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

Your map location can be set in one of three ways:

    • Typing your address in the Google map address box
    • Entering your GPS co-ordinates in digital format only
    • Dragging the marker in the map to your location

Click Read more for tips for using your address to generate your GPS location or to convert Degrees, Minutes & Seconds to Decimal Degrees.

  • Selecting categories

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

You can add your business in up to five categories - but these must all be your primary business.  Shopping nearby does not qualify you to be in a retail category.

Some categories - like Accommodation - have sub-categories and in those cases you have to submit your business in the sub-category rather than the main category.  Categories with sub-categories are identified with a + prior to the category name.  You open the main category by clicking on the + sign.

Select the category or sub-category you want to be included under and then move it to the right hand box using the arrows button.

  • Definitions for accommodation establishments

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

GUEST HOUSES & B&B : A converted house adapted to accommodate overnight guests or a purpose built facility.  A guest house is run as a commercial operation and is often owner-managed.  The owner/manager either lives off-site, or in a separate area within the property.  B&B accommodation is usually provided in a family (private) home and the owner/manager lives in the house or on the property.   A guest house has public areas which are for the exclusive use of the guest while in a B&B the guest shares the public areas with the host family.

SELF-CATERING : A House, cottage, chalet, bungalow, flat, studio, apartment, villa, houseboat, tents or similar accommodation where facilities and equipment are provided for guests to cater for themselves.  The facilities cater for the maximum advertised number of residents the facility can accommodate.

  • Adding photographs

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

You can add up to 12 images to CapeInfo's image gallery in the Directory.  We suggest that you add images in multiples of three - 3, 6, 9 or 12 - to keep the pages neat.

The maximum image size that can be added is 5Mb, which should be more than adequate for almost all users.  Images are resized automatically to about 900 pixels wide to fit on a computer screen.  If your photos are smaller than 900 pixels wide, you won't be getting the best impact from your images.

We do recommend that you include captions to each photograph.  Readers are looking for as much information as they can get, and Google will not index your images if there is no caption.

After you have added your images, you can go back afterwards to edit them - changing the order and adding/editing captions.

  • Adding content for you

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

If you don't have the time or are technically challenged, CapeInfo can add your content to the Directory for a fee of R150.00

Please click Read more to request this service.

Classified Ads

  • Placing Classified Ads

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail

Placing classified ads is free, but you need to have registered and be logged in.

For national ads, select the appropriate category on the entry page and you'll see a "Post" tab.  That takes you to the form which needs to be completed.

For regional ads, click on the regional link and choose the location first and then the appropriate category.

Banner advertising

  • Banner advertising

     PDFPrintWrite e-mail
Banner advertising is sometimes the most cost-effective way of advertising because you only pay for the number of times your ad is actually viewed.

Banner advertising is charged per 1000 AdViews.  A cost estimate is prepared based on your budget or the page/s where you want the ad placed - some pages have much higher traffic volumes than others.  This benefits niche marketers and makes advertising affordable.  Advertisers pay in advance for the number of AdViews puchased.

The job of delivering ads to the correct place is done by the AdServer, which also counts whenever an ad is successfully served or clicked on.  The AdServer can also display specific ads to specific geographic locations - visitors from Germany, for example, could see an ad in German.  The AdServer also emails automated weekly and monthly reports to advertisers.

CapeInfo caters for the following IAB banner ad sizes:

    Leaderboard banner | Size = 728x90 pixels | Cost = R250/1000 AdViews
    Standard banner | Size = 468x60 pixels | Cost = R150/1000 AdViews
    Medium Rectangle | Size = 300x250 pixels | Cost = R150/1000 AdViews
    3:1 Rectangle | Size = 300x100 pixels | Cost = R90/1000 AdViews

Certain pages use the content-wide format and cannot accommodate 300px wide banners.  The maximum column width on these pages is 220px.
Custom-sized ads can be accommodated here otherwise the following IAB formats can be used:
    180x150 IMU - R110/1000 AdViews
    160x600 (Skyskraper) - R200/1000 Adviews

CapeInfo can prepare banner ads at an additional fee.

Material required: GIF, JPG or Flash formats.  Please ensure that the size of the file is within acceptable limits.

Note that these rates may change without prior notification.  Ads contribute much to what a website offers and we reserve the right to refuse any material that does not meet our aesthetic or content requirements.
