Tips on healthy snacking

Start making healthy snacking choices today and it will last a lifetime!  Here are a few tips.

Keep the fridge stocked with raw veggies, like baby carrots or celery for a snack on the go.

Buy out of the ordinary fruit, like pineapple, kiwi, strawberries and even nuts.

Dip pieces of fruit in fat-free yoghurt or top it with peanut butter.

A whole-grain snack can give energy with some staying power.

Low-sugar, whole-grain breakfast cereals is an ideal snack in the afternoon.

Cut whole-grain bread and low-fat cheese into different shapes, for a fun sandwich.

Eliminate the temptation to snack on cookies and sweets by not having it on hand.

Limit snacking to the kitchen.

Sprinkle cinnamon on cereal, desserts, and juice to balance blood sugar levels and prevent the craving for a snack later.

Cut bread into pieces/ shapes and let children butter and sprinkle with ‘fairy dust’ (100s & 1000s).

Dinosaur Eggs

Boil an egg for 8-10 minutes.  Tap the hard-boiled egg on a table to make cracks in it.  Put it in a cup of water with your choice of natural colouring and let it sit for an hour in the fridge.  Open up the eggshell and see the interesting designs made from the cracks and colouring.  Eat & enjoy your dinosaur egg.
