Clairewood is the perfect getaway if peace and tranquility is what you are looking for. It is also a popular honeymoon destination.
We have two freestanding self catering chalets each with two bedrooms king-size or twin (sleeps 4 per chalet). Bath towels, linen and hairdryers are provided. Each chalet has a bathroom with shower and bath facilities and an open plan fully equipped kitchen. The lounge with satellite television and cozy fireplace has breathtaking views of the lush green surrounding hills and nearby Outeniqua Mountains and leads through stack-away doors to the patio with built-in barbeque overlooking two ponds. Each chalet has its own safe.
We also have a double room available. The room has an en suite bathroom with shower and bath and has a private garden entrance with secure parking. Tea and coffee making facilities with bar fridge are available.
Self catering apartments with garden views are also available. These apartments are adjacent to each other. A more affordable option for big families of more than 4.
Our private walking trail winds through the indigenous forest and along the Silver River, affording you the opportunity to encounter birds like the brilliantly coloured Knysna Loerie, or one of the five kingfisher species, the red billed wood hoopoe, Knysna woodpecker, paradise flycatcher or lesser double-collared sunbird. You may also take a refreshing swim in the river's natural pools.
Facilities on site include a swimming pool, tennis court and private walking trail through the forest that meander along the banks of the Silver River. We also have wooden deck treetop walks.
Recreational activities in Wilderness include hiking, mountain-biking, bird- and whale-watching, hang- and paragliding, horse riding, scenic drives, day tours, angling, boating and other water sports.
Excellent viewpoints are Map of Africa (3km from Clairewood) with breathtaking scenery of forests, lakes, mountains and coastline and Dolphin's Point (5km from Clairewood), an excellent vantage point from which to study whales and dolphins. Kaaimans River Bridge is a much favoured spot for photography.
The Woodville Big Tree (15km from Clairewood), over 800 years old, creates shaded areas with its massive branches, making it a great picnic spot.
Take a stroll along Wilderness' boardwalk which is part of the Pied Kingfisher Trail and also home to a wide variety of birds.
