Swellendam Accomodation and Country Style Family Restaurant.

The Old Mill Guest House and Restaurant is situated in the heart of the Overberg region (Western Cape, South Africa), at the foot of the Langeberg Mountain range where scenic routes wind through rural farmlands – the Old Mill is a recognised national monument and oozes with character.

Nikki (the Belgian owner), Chef Peppas (General Manager & Chef de Cuisine) and the Old Mill’s dedicated team will welcome you with warm and friendly South African and Flemish hospitality.

The Old Mill team will actively work toward you having a memorable stay with well-appointed accommodation, hearty country cuisine, Belgian beer and an extensive wine list.  In the spirit of great South African hospitality we will always be on hand to assist you in experiencing all the Overberg region has to offer - from exceptional traditional South African, Belgian, Mediterranean cuisine to pointing you in the right direction when wishing to explore and experiencing some of the Western Cape’s most popular sights.

The area is botanically diverse with an abundance of wild flowers and fynbos. The 250ha indigenous forest at Grootvadersbosch is the most noteworthy in the southwestern Cape. Woods like these are rare to find in the Cape this far west of the Knysna forests.

Wildlife such as the formerly endangered bontebok and Cape mountain zebra inhabit the area. Other species include bushbuck, klipspringer, grey rhebuck, Cape grysbok, baboon, mongoose, genet and the occasional leopard, as well as a species of ghost frog and a unique forest emperor butterfly. Over 200 bird species found near the town include waterfowl, the crowned eagle, black eagle, Narina trogon, paradise flycatcher and the Knysna woodpecker.

Witsand, a small coastal town about 50 km from Swellendam, is one of the best whale viewing spots on the South coast as it is the largest whale nursery in South Africa.
