While CapeInfo has been through many upgrades over the past months (with some glitches still to be fixed) the big news received this morning is that Directory upgrade is finally available. It's been an 18 month wait and one false-start with a beta version that didn't quite work. The upgrade will take place this weekend and the Directory only will be offline for a short period.

Are Municipalities up to the job when it comes to tourism?
Well, obviously, some are and some are not, but we were surprised by Overstrand Municipality (which includes Hermanus, Stanford & Gansbaai) where tourism is its core economic driver. Although its marketing department has been operating for a few years, it has no marketing plan yet! Maybe they'll have one next year if it's included in the budget. Now surely that shows a complete absence of professionalism, and waste of tax- and ratepayers money! It's not acceptable.
CapeInfo met with several people at the Municipality and, with the exception of the mayor -- Nicolette Botha-Guthrie, who Overstrand is extremely lucky to have -- the outcome was extremely disappointing. Read the account for yourself -- Not all in the same book, let alone on the same page
In Montagu, there has been a 'call to arms' against the Langeberg Municipality. You can read about this at Upping the ante.
Municipalities don't have the coporate cultures nor the capabilities to address many of the issues they are expected to address. More effort needs to be devoted to growing civil society organisations.
