In this issue:• In Conversation with Derek Hanekom, SA's Minister of Tourism
• Walks, Hikes & MTB Trails
• Delivering as SA's Innovation Capital
A GOOD READ: We really enjoyed our conversation with Derek Hanekom – probably the best Tourism Minister has ever had. We hope you will too.
Tourism touches more lives than any other industry sector and has the potential to turn SA's economy around. And face off the threat of the SA Rand being delegated to junk status by the ratings agencies.
We don't think the Department of Tourism has a big enough vision to achieve this. We think the Ministry of Tourism should become a Super-Ministry. We think Tourism should be inspiring and guiding many State departments so our towns, villages and rural environments all become attractions.

MOUNTAIN BIKING IS THE NEW GOLF! And it's driving tourism to rural destinations like never before.STELLENBOSCH's decision to brand itself as "Innovation Capital of SA" really impressed us and led to our 2014 interview with Mayor Conrad Sidego. It sets Stellenbosch apart from every other town in SA – with a vision that won't come easily.
Walks & Hikes are equally as important as attractions for destinations and many people base their choice of destination on where they can do the best hiking.
CapeInfo has just added a new section for Walks, Hiking and MTB Trails. Anybody, anywhere in southern Africa, can add these for free. Click here for help.
And do have a look at the Boschendal MTB Trails.
We've opened a new section titled "Delivering as Innovation Capital of SA" where the Mayor has already added an introduction. We've also invited a number of people to contribute what they see as the challenge of delivering on the Brand Promise. In the coming days, we will be adding these. So this is something worth revisiting in the coming weeks.
And if you think you have a compelling viewpoint to add about Stellenbosch delivering as the Innovation Capital, please let us know.
