The neighborhood

In Suurbraak, on the other side of the river, is the quaint self-catering cottage, “Bibisjoy”, belonging to Peter and Bibi Present. Its appeal lies in its solitude and the fact that the mountain is its back-yard. This set-up is ideal for the avid outdoors-person, as mountain-biking, hiking, cross-country running, cycling, and even swimming and canoeing (depending of the water level of the river) can be practiced with ease. The charming cottage has a lovely garden with many indigenous plant species and ancient oak trees. This is a haven for birders, as even the odd kingfisher was spotted on the property. Hoopoe’s, the Cape Robin, a variety of sugar birds, Fiscal Shrike, Forktailed Drongo’s etc., are found here. Goats, horses and cattle on the adjacent plots add character and complement the country feel. One of the reasons the main gate must be kept closed at all times.

Getting around

There is ample parking on the property. From Cape Town, either travel on the N2 via Swellendam or on the N1 via Worcester.
