Nestled in the heart of the Waterberg plateau, Windsong Cottages offers its guests a haven of tranquility, relaxation and fun, in the beautiful Bushveld.

Only 3 hours away from Jo'burg airport, and malaria free, we invite you to leave behind the stress and strain of the city and experience the unspoilt wilderness of the Waterberg Biosphere.

Windsong Cottages is set in rolling gardens, which themselves are situated within our 700 hectare game area, providing a combination of restful lawn and wild Africa.

Facilities on site for guests include our our 15m heated swimming pool, a slightly rough tennis court, braai areas for every cottage and marked walking trails.

Families are not just tolerated at Windsong - we enjoy having them. Children love our large trampoline, sand play areas and our huge Children's Adventure Village.

Activities on site

Activities on Site include: guided walks and self-guided walks, game drives, quad biking, bass fishing, canoeing, archery, donket cart rides, visiting our local leather and bead craft shop, and viewing our family of hippo.

While staying at Windsong Dr Philip Calcott would be delighted to take you on a Night Sky Safari. This is a personalised tour of the splendours of the African Night Sky using advanced computer-controlled telescopes, combined with special hand-crafted astronomical video cameras. Guests can all see live exactly what the telescope is seeing, projected onto a big screen - in colour. Enjoy seeing the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, colourful nebulae and many more wonders of our universe - all under dark skies free from light pollution.

History is very much part of your stay at Windsong Cottages. The Baber family has been living continually in the Waterberg since 1886, and guests have an opportunity to learn more about pioneer life in this different terrain by taking a local history tour with Charles Baber, which includes a visit to the oldest house in the area - still preserved with its original furnishing. Guests can also stay in the Windsong Cottage itself, built by Juliet Baber's grandfather, and though renovated, still showing many original features.

Activities in the area

The UNESCO designated Waterberg Biosphere has a wide range of activities for everyone. Situated on the same farm as the cottages is the world famous Horizon Horse-back Adventures. With 100 horses, horse and rider can be carefully matched. Riding options include out-rides, riding with game, polocross and even cattle mustering.

Within driving distance of our cottages the Big 5 are on view at Entabeni Game Reserve, or there are other great game viewing opportunities at the world famous Ant's Nest private game reserve, amongst others. For the truly adventurous there are even elephant backed safaris available.
