Wilderness area
Situated in the picturesque Eastern Cape and sharing two borders with the Groendal Wilderness Area, Kleinrivier offers you the ideal escape from the pressures of city life. Redefine the word “tranquillity” as you explore pristine mountain fynbos, rest in the shade of riverine forests or stroll through Karoo tropical thicket .

All the accommodation is self catering. There are options for couples or small groups. Campers, hikers, birders and 4x4 enthusiasts all love the pristine wilderness experience that Kleinrivier proudly protects.
Kleinrivier is a paradise for hikers, birders and those who simply want to escape other people for a while. We have not introduced any of the big five so it is safe to walk and explore our many trails on your own. The scenery in the Kleinrivier gorge is spectacularly beautiful and there are frequent pools to tempt you in on a hot summer day. If you are lucky you may encounter klipspringer, kudu or other game that we have introduced.

Accommodation options include lodges, chalets, tents and campsites, each entwined with nature, each offering a unique wilderness experience.

Stone Mountain lodge

The Stone Mountain Lodge,  nestled in a grove of cycads high above the Karoo, must surely be one of the most remote destinations in the country. There are spectacular views from every window, even the swimming pool has a view.

Walk through the surrounding mountains or relax in front of a roaring log fire. Getting there requires a slow drive in your 4x4 or a 5hr hike up the Two Gorges Trail, but the effort is well worth while.

The lodge is fully equipped for self catering and all linen and towels are supplied

Black Eagle Tented camp

If you do not have a 4x4 then head for this beautiful camp, shaded by ancient Forest Elder Trees, it is an oasis of cool on a scorching Karroo day. There is a 5 minute walk from the parking at the mouth of the Kleinrivier gorge but once you are in camp you will forget that the rest of the world exists. The gurgle of the passing stream will lull you to sleep. 8 Guests can be accommodated in four spacious double tents which have comfortable sprung mattresses, electric lights and carpets.

The camp is fully equipped for self catering and all linen and towels are supplied.

Dassiekrans Self Catering

Dassiekrans has 4 self-catering chalets tucked amongst the trees on the banks of the Kleinrivier. It is ideal for couples and families who wish to escape the rush of city life and spend a few days in close communion with nature. Units 1 and 2 overlook a small stream, unit 3 and 4 have views across and up the Kleinrivier gorge.

All units are fully equipped for self catering.

Soetdorings Campsite

For those who prefer to camp the Soetdorings campsite is only booked to one party at a time so you will not be troubled by noisy neighbours. There is plenty of shade and a small dam to attract birds and game.
