Clansthal is a small village situated on the Umdoni Coast of KwaZulu-Natal about 40km from Durban between Umkomaas and Scottburgh. The outstanding feature of this secluded village is the breathtaking beach which stretches all the way to Scottburgh. In fact one can walk along the beach to the Scotts Bay beach in Scottburgh and along the way take in Green Point Lighthouse, a national heritage site.
The lighthouse was built on this spot to warn shipping of the proximity of the world-renowned Aliwal Shoal, where you can do so some spectacular diving. There is also an excellent surfing break at the lighthouse.
Nature lovers can enjoy the nature nearby Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve and the Oribi Gorge. From Clansthal it is an easy drive to Scottburgh with its restaurants and shops or you can be in Durban in about 30 minutes. There are numerous golf courses in the area the closest being in Scottburgh.
Fishermen will not be disappointed – there are two excellent fishing spots in Clansthal.
