Vondeling Wines

Vondeling lies on the slopes of the un-spoilt and undiscovered Paardeberg Mountain, approximately forty five minutes' drive from Cape Town.  The farm was originally granted to Swedish immigrant, Olaf Bergh in 1740.  The Cape Dutch farm house was built in 1740 and was immaculately restored by the current owners in 2005.  In 2012 one of the old buildings on the farm was upgraded to accmmodate the Vondeling Tasting Room & function venue.  Vondeling's function venue offers thatched roof country charm.  The interior is spacious and airy with a touch of Cape Country style.

Minimal intervention during the winemaking process ensures wines with a unique “fingerprint” of origin.  Separate vinification of specific blocks and natural fermentations are an integral part of the process.  Whole berry basket pressing, hand plunging, minimal filtering and no fining also feature in the hands-on approach.  Wines are aged in the atmospheric barrel maturation cellar.

Vondelings’ stylish tasting room is also available for the hosting of private events, corporate events and weddings and can accommodate up to 100 people.  The room offers an elegant minimalistic ambience and a touch of Cape country style – a beautiful setting for a wedding or special occasion.

The recently completed St Clement’s chapel at Vondeling promises the bridal couple the day of their dreams.  St Clement’s is conveniently situated alongside the tasting room with rolling lawns and  spectacular views of the escarpment.  Complete with thatch roof, stained glass windows, steeple and bell, St Clement’s will make a wedding in the winelands unforgettable.  The Foundling House our old Cape Dutch Homestead can be booked exclusively for wedding parties.

Whether you are planning an event or simply yearn for a day out in the country – take a leisurely drive to Vondeling in the Voor Paardeberg.  Pre-book a hearty home-style winemakers platter and spend an idle afternoon at the best kept secret of the Cape Winelands.
